Summer is coming!
It’s been a cold and wet spring so I propose we’re due for a reversion to the mean with a hot, sun filled summer. Water levels are currently running well above their long term average with more wet weather in…

Summer is coming!
Eventually. But the days are noticeably longer, the weather is (mostly) getting more mild, and reservations have been building. That’s good enough to hold me over until the leaves come back. In the meantime, our reservation system is open!
-
Closed for the winter
We’ve officially called it quits for the winter. Reservations can now be made for the 2019 season starting in May!
-
Feels like fall
Update: Water levels will come up a few inches over the weekend. Not enough to cancel trips but sandbars will be in shorter supply than usual. Everyone will have a place to camp (there’s only about 14 seperate groups going…
-
Looking great for this upcoming weekend
Water levels continue to recede as expected. We’ll have plenty of sandbars out for this Sep 15-16 weekend and with clear skies, highs in the mid 80s, and favorable winds, conditions will be about as good as they get. Now…

Bad news with a silver lining
What was forecast to be a small amount of rain has, once again, turned ugly. Over the past two days most of Wisconsin has been hit with multiple rounds of high rainfall storms. Current river projections look bad. Really bad.…
-
Only 3 weekends left!
Despite all of the rain and flooding last week (and really the two weeks prior to that as well), we’re looking pretty good for the weekend. Most of that rain was local or south of us leaving the vast majority…
-
Another week, another flood
8:26am 8/29 Update: Another nasty storm last night in pretty much the exact worst place. We’ve cancelled all trips through Monday due to serious flooding. We’ll see upwards of 18 million gallons of water per minute at its peak, 3…

Here’s what the flooding looks like from space
Quick update: The Arena landing is open for business again! Any trips that were scheduled for Arena are now operating normally. Mazomanie landing is also now accessible via Hwy 78 to Cty Y (~5 minutes further than going through town…

More tangential flooding updates
First off – the Wisconsin River is 100% unaffected by the flooding nearby. Well, 85% unaffected would be more accurate. The majority of the rainfall was in the Rock and Sugar River watersheds. Only a relatively minor tributary of the…

The Bridge is Out
No word on how long it’ll take to fix the approach but for the foreseeable future, plan to get to Spring Green via Hwy 12/60 through Sauk City or Hwy 151/23 through Dodgeville. Hwy 14 is out. ===== Quick update:…

Record breaking rainfall
Quick update: I forgot we still have to be able to get you on the river once you get to us. Currently our only accessible landing is PDS. Mazomanie looks to be out of the picture for at least a…

Another perfect weekend on tap
Our ridiculous string of perfect conditions continues this weekend. While we’re bookended by some unstable weather on either side, Friday through Sunday look amazing. Highs in the mid 80s with light winds mostly at your back plus perfect water conditions…
-
Starting to sound like a broken record
Once again, conditions this weekend are phenomenal. Clear skies with highs in the mid 80s and nights in the low 60s. Water levels are at seasonal lows which means tons of sandbars. Even the winds should be light and favorable…
-
Pretty great weekend ahead
With one mediocre exception, this weekend is looking pretty great. Highs in the low 90s with 50% cloud cover so plenty warm enough to swim but not so much sun you feel like you’re gonna melt (but still bring sunscreen). …
-
Still early but the long range forecast says good things
Too soon to say anything with certainty but the long range forecast is looking pretty good for the coming week/weekend with highs getting into the upper 80s and sandbars for miles. It’s not called the river of a thousand isles…
-
Nice weekend on tap
Looks like highs in the 70s with a chance of isolated storm Sunday afternoon. Sandbars are at late summer peaks – they are everywhere. We’re sold out for this weekend but you might get lucky if someone cancels last minute…
-
Wet Thurs/Fri, clearing Sat/Sun
Looks like we’ve got a low pressure system slowly moving through our area this weekend. It’ll be wet today and tomorrow but by Friday evening the low should be moving Eastward. Not a lot of instability with this one so…
-
Typical summer days ahead
July 13 Update Looks like better news on the weather front. We should see most rain or storms on Friday afternoon/evening and a limited chance of rain on Saturday. There’s even potential for the whole shortwave system to fall off…
-
The 4th of July Week Ahead
The outlook for this weekend is pretty phenomenal. I’m giving it a preliminary 9 out of 10. Highs in the mid 80s, crisp nights in the low 60s. Sunny with essentially 0% chance of rain and light winds out of…
-
One last hurdle and then it’s smooth sailing for the week
Crazy amount of wind for a few minutes last night as the first storm came by but otherwise the rest of the night turned out to be pretty quiet with only a small amount of rain. Still questionable what exactly…
-
Hot!
Temps into the higher 90s today with a ‘feels like’ over 100 – good thing the water is 73. Looking at a 50% chance of storms coming through tonight; they are mostly expected to stay in a line west of…
-
Slow and steady
Water levels are continuing to drop nicely upstream and it’s looking like we’ll have a decent number of sandbars above water by Friday with more coming out as the weekend progresses. It’s pretty likely you’ll be sharing some of the…
-
Currently on track to re-open Thursday 6/28
Update: 6/25 Everything below still holds, sandbars should be back ~Thursday. We’re going to get a little more rain in our immediate area but further north is expected to get significantly less which is overall good news. We should know…

17 Billion Gallons
It’s official, we’re out of commission well into next week. We’re expecting over 40kcfs of water on our stretch of river by the middle of this weekend. Just a couple days ago we were at 5kcfs and our cutoff is…
-
Well…shoot. A lot can change in 48 hours.
The overall volume of water in the river system is tripling (or more) right now. New readings coming out of Castle Rock upstream already put us underwater and it’ll only get worse as the next few tributaries up the numbers…
-
Spike in river levels arriving Sunday afternoon
A very narrow storm rolled through last night and while overall rainfall totals weren’t a lot, it sat right on top of the entire river valley. Unfortunately, this has resulted in a pretty large spike in water levels throughout the…
-
Looking ahead this week
This spring has been what I like to call reversion to the mean. Water levels continue to remain at or below the 100 year average which means a lot more sandbars than you’d usually see in June, certainly compared to…
-
Update on the weather this weekend
We’ve got a pretty unstable forecast in the sense that the National Weather Service doesn’t have a lot of confidence in it. The current climate models have come up with different conclusions about what’s going to happen when and with…

More Spring than Summer
Sandbars are out in force this weekend as we continue to enjoy water levels not seen in years. The weather looks very spring-y though with a chance for isolated storms overnight Friday and Saturday. On the bright side, partly sunny…
